The Frassati Catholic Government and Debate Club attended the Houston Regional Model UN Summit, Saturday, March 2, at the YMCA of Greater Houston. The Regional Summit was a gathering of Model UN teams from both public and private schools in the Greater Houston area. Frassati Catholic delegates took home numerous accolades at the summit including several Best Delegate awards.
It was a full day of activity with many notable accomplishments for Frassati Catholic students. In the Social and Humanitarian Committee, Emma Okruhlik served as chair, and Anna Lackner and Grace Ann Fruge passed a resolution through a contentious committee to General Assembly where Grace Ann Fruge was named best delegate overall. In the World Health Organization, Adam Sucy won best delegate and John Druzbik won the character award. In the Human Rights Committee, Kathryn MacMillan passed a resolution to General Assembly. In the Security Council, Patrick Weisbrod and Zachary Harrison passed a resolution, and Zachary Harrison won outstanding delegate. Alaina Filley served as the Head Media Officer for the Houston region.
After the summit, Frassati Catholic Government and Debate Club advisor, Stephen Schmidt, reflected on the team’s performance. “Every committee our delegates were a part of accomplished something big. The Model UN team had a great showing and one of the highlights was Zachary Harrison as the United States and Patrick Weisbrod as China leading the Security Council in solving a crisis between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir. This experience is invaluable for our students and they’ll soon get to work to prepare resolutions for what is likely to be a very strong state conference in April.”
The Frassati Catholic Model UN team will participate in the Texas Model UN State Assembly in Dallas from April 12-14.
