The mission of the Frassati Catholic High School World Language Department is to help students grow into an appreciation and understanding of diverse cultural expressions through the study of French and Spanish language and culture. The goal for each student is to develop proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking of French or Spanish. Students with previous language study in French or Spanish take a placement test in order to be placed in the appropriate level. AP French and Spanish are offered to students who have completed required courses (French III or Spanish IV) and emphasize attaining the level of fluency necessary to succeed in a French or Spanish-speaking environment.
Through participation in the World Language Club, the French Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society, students are able to use their language skills outside of the classroom in a variety of settings: the Texas French Symposium, the Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration, the Our Lady of Lourdes celebration, attendance at French and Spanish Masses, and other activities. In addition, French students have traveled to Bordeaux and Lourdes on exchange programs. While there, they stayed with French students, attended Lycée de La Sauque (our sister Dominican High School) and served at the Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage in Lourdes with the La Sauque Senior Class. Students have also served in Lourdes with the Our Lady of Lourdes North American Volunteers. We regularly welcome French students from Lycée de La Sauque to our campus.
